Best Places to Visit in Mexico in February

1.Puerto Vallarta

February is another fantastic month to be in Puerto Vallarta. The afternoons are comfortably sunny, and the evenings are pleasantly cool. February is also one of the last months visitors can whale watch. You can take a boat tour to see humpback whales and their babies swimming in the temperate waters of this coastal town in Jalisco state. Other activities one can partake in in Puerto Vallarta include hiking and surfing.

2.Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza is one of the most important – and most visited – archaeological sites in Mexico and the world. No trip to Mexico ought to be considered complete without a trip to this ancient Mayan complex and February remains one of the best months to do that. The weather is ideal and there's very little chance of rain. We recommend getting there early in the morning on a weekday so as to avoid crowds and long lines.

3.Veracruz

February is a great month to visit Veracruz. The crescent shaped province benefits from excellent weather conditions during the month and its long coastline is home to plenty a beautiful beach and waters temperate enough to make them ideal for swimming. Veracruz also holds its annual Veracruz Carnival nine days before Ash Wednesday every year in February, celebrating the vibrant culture and traditions of the state and its inhabitants. Dance performances, parades, music, and plenty of parties make for an amazing time for anyone attending this grand, and very historic, festival!

February Crowds and Costs

February is very much a part of Mexico's peak travel season. This is due to several reasons including the great weather and the number of traditional festivals taking place during this time. While it can be particularly crowded in the coastal locations, you can expect it to be busier than usual no matter where you go in Mexico in February.

Peak season crowds, unfortunately, come with peak season prices. The surge in tourism during February results in higher prices for accommodation, airfare, transportation, and shopping. The best way to save yourself from paying over the odds would be to book your flights and hotels as far out in advance as possible.

February Events in Mexico

Constitution Day: Constitution Day in Mexico is celebrated on February 5th every year and commemorates the installation of the country's new – and current – constitution. It is a day of great pride for Mexicans and is a public holiday, meaning all public institutions like government offices, banks, schools, and businesses have the day off.

Veracruz Carnival: Dating back to 1867, El Carnival de Veracruz, or the Veracruz Carnival, is held nine days before Ash Wednesday every year. The carnival celebrates the culture and traditions of the people of Veracruz, who are also known as "Jarochos". Costumed dances, parades, music, and parties take center stage during this epic bash for the ages!

While you don't have to worry about it being rainy and wet in Mexico during February, you ought to bring with you a few winter clothes and accessories because it can get quite cold in places like Mexico City, especially in the mornings and late evenings. For most other spots, summer clothing should suffice.

Ideally, if traveling to Mexico in February, you should make sure your packing list includes everything from this list: tops made of light, breathable, fabrics like linen and cotton, shorts, dresses, skirts, beach cover ups, swimwear, jeans, lightweight pants or capris, sweaters, jackets, scarves, socks, sturdy and comfortable walking shoes, sandals or flip flops, sunscreen, and sunhats.
