The Best Places to Visit in the United Kingdom in June
The weather in the United Kingdom in June is perfect for exploring its outdoor attractions, but you will probably see some rain too. So, we have a few outdoors recommendations as well as some indoor recommendations for the potential of a rainy morning or afternoon.
Most of the country sees similar temperatures in June, meaning that our recommendations range from Edinburgh, to London, to the Cotswolds and the Lake District.
1. Catch a Shakespeare Play at Shakespeare's Globe
There is so much to do in London, you could easy spend a week exploring and still not see everything that you wanted to see. Luckily, your international flight will usually come into London and depart from there as well, giving you the opportunity to start and end your United Kingdom travels in the capital.
Just one recommendation for London is seeing whether you are able to catch a Shakespeare Play at Shakespeare's Globe during your time there. The theater is a 360-degree auditorium, purposely made to be similar to Shakespeare's original locations. The theater is open air, with seats arranged around the gallery meaning that spectators and performers can see each other throughout the show.

2. See Quaint Old British Countryside Houses in the Cotswolds
For fans of traditional British architecture and countryside houses, the Cotswolds are a must-see. You likely will have seen some of these sights in popular TV shows and movies like Downton Abbey or Pride and Prejudice.
We recommend visiting Bibury, labeled by some as the most beautiful village in England. Bibury is home to Bibury Court and Arlington Row, whose beautiful picturesque cottages were built in the 1300s as wool storages. They were then converted to weavers' cottages in the 17th century, and are currently private residences. Today, they are some of the most photographed spots in the Cotswolds.
If you'd like to go for a hike in the area, we recommend the various Bibury and Ablington circular routes, each of these are easy to moderate and will take you past the most popular sights.
3. Visit the Lake District from Kirkby Lonsdale
The Lake District is one of the most beautiful national parks in England, located north of the cities of Manchester and Blackpool, nearing the Scottish border.
This is a great spot to visit if you're a hiker or want to fully immerse yourself in some of the best the British countryside has to offer. There are a range of routes for all fitness levels, including more challenging day-long routes, or shorter routes that aren't as taxing.
Lake Windermere and the surrounding area is one of the most popular places to stay, and also the biggest lake in the Lake District, or you can also base yourself in Kirkby Lonsdale, as we detailed in our article about visiting the United Kingdom in May.
4. See How Royals Live at the Palace of Holyroodhouse
The official residence of the British monarch in Scotland, Holyroodhouse, is a beautiful palace that has parts of it open to the public for sightseeing. Visiting Holyroodhouse as well as the Royal Mile gives a great impression of the importance of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, and there are some beautiful architectural feats to admire, including Edinburgh Castle.
Given your time, from Edinburgh it is possible to travel into the Scottish Highlands too, visiting the castles, lochs, and glens that make up its gorgeous landscape.
If you're traveling with your family, you may want to see Loch Ness to see if you can spot Nessie! If you're a fan of whisky, there are distilleries open to visitors for a tasting tour.
High Season: More Expensive and More Crowded
June falls in the United Kingdom's high season, which stretches across the summer months of June, July and August due to the weather and regional summer holidays. We recommend booking ahead as there will be plenty of demand for accommodation and travel, and prices can be a little higher especially closer to the time.
What to Wear in June
June's weather can be quite varied, you could see a day where you'll want to wear a waterproof coat with a sweater underneath, and you could see days where you would be comfortable in your summer clothing.
As a result, we would recommend bringing a mix and checking a more specific weather forecast if you are able to closer to the time. Layering is a good way to ensure that you can either add on an additional layer for warmth, or take one off to enjoy the sunshine.
If you are planning on hiking, we would suggest bringing proper hiking gear and ensuring you are prepared depending of the difficulty level of the hikes you'd like to take on. Proper footwear is a must, as is a waterproof layer, just in case.
