2. The Best Places to Visit in Morocco in April

While April in Morocco is still a little bit cool for a beach holiday, its warmer temperatures inland mean it's a great destination for sightseeing, outdoor activity seekers, and to visit the desert and learn about Morocco's desert destinations.

The top places we recommend visiting in April include Marrakesh (Morocco's number one tourist spot), the Atlas Mountains, the desert near Marrakesh, Fez, and Casablanca, although this is not an exhaustive list.

For help putting together your ideal April itinerary in Morocco, and make the most of your trip there, please read on:

1) Explore Morocco's Most Popular Tourist Destination: Marrakesh

Koutoubia Mosque, Marrakesh, MoroccoKoutoubia Mosque, Marrakesh, Morocco

Marrakesh is popular with tourists for its beautiful red buildings, its historic center (also known as its medina), and the souks (markets). This is where you'll find some of Morocco's best restaurants, more interesting shops, and be able to learn a lot about Moroccan culture.

Spots to visit while you are in Marrakesh include the Bahia Palace, Jemaa El-Fna Public Plaza, El Badi Palace, the markets, and the Medina, as mentioned above. April's weather is a nice and moderate time to stroll through Marrakesh before the summer temperatures hit.

To learn more about what to include when putting together a Marrakesh itinerary, see Top 11 Things to Do in Marrakesh.

2) Hike in the Atlas Mountains

The Atlas Mountains, MoroccoThe Atlas Mountains, Morocco

April is a great time of year to visit the Atlas Mountains, before the temperatures get too high in summer. Near to Marrakesh, the Atlas Mountains are a great backdrop for the active traveler, with plenty of treks at many different skill levels and durations.

In the Atlas Mountains you'll be able to see Berber villages as you head from valleys to peaks, making it a great spot to get into nature and learn about the Moroccan Berber culture.

Global Highlights can help you put together a tailor-made itinerary to fit your hiking and trekking requirements. Just let us know how long you're looking to spend in the mountains, and whether you're traveling with young children or others that might not be able to do a very intense hike, and we can help you put together a plan to fit your needs. 3) Adventure out to the Chegaga Dunes

Bivouac in the Chegaga Dunes, MoroccoBivouac in the Chegaga Dunes, Morocco

While there are many different desert spots you can visit in Morocco, April is a great time of year to head to the Chegaga Dunes. This is a tranquil desert location, which will give you the opportunity to adventure out to the desert, experience an evening in a desert camp, and learn more about Morocco's culture.

The Chegaga Dunes are not too far from Marrakesh, and are doable in a couple of days. You might even be able to see some Moroccan nomads, as well as a passing camel caravan if you are lucky.

4) Take in Picturesque Fez

Medina of Fez, MoroccoMedina of Fez, Morocco

Before the summer temperatures hit Fez, April is the perfect time of year to explore one of Morocco's "imperial cities" (others in this category include Marrakesh, which is described above), as well as Meknes (Top 11 Things to See in Meknes) and Rabat (Top 10 Things to See in Rabat).

Not-to-miss spots in Fez include the Medina, in which you'll find pottery workshops, copper shops, and leather and cloth-dying shops, which explains why Fez is known to be one of Morocco's most artistic cities. Fez is a great place to spend a few days in, and the perfect spot to get your family and friends' souvenirs!

3. Morocco Festivals in April: Eid al-Fitr, International Nomad Festival

Market in Marrakesh, MoroccoMarket in Marrakesh, Morocco

April marks the end of Ramadan in Morocco, with Eid al-Fitr being celebrated on April 9 and 10 in 2024 (March 30 and 31 in 2025, and March 19 and 20 in 2026).

If you want to learn more about visiting Morocco during Ramadan, please read our article about visiting Morocco in March. Do beware that many places will be closed during the first day of Eid, but the big tourist spots should still be open. If you are in doubt, ring ahead to double check!

April is also when Morocco celebrates the International Nomad Festival (or the Festival International des Nomades as it is known by the organizers). The festival aims to celebrate nomadic culture, and is held near the Sahara Desert. 2024 dates are yet to be announced, but if you are planning to visit Morocco in April 2024, and want to visit the desert, let us know when you are planning your tour with Global Highlights, and we can keep you updated.

4. High Season: More Crowds and More Costly

Sahara Desert, MoroccoSahara Desert, Morocco

April is a busy time of year to visit Morocco, but for good reason, because the weather is wonderful. Especially around the time of the Easter school holidays, as well as during Eid al-Fitr (when surrounding Muslim countries also celebrate the end of Ramadan), you'll find that there are more crowds at tourist destinations throughout Morocco.

Due to a rise in demand, you'll also see an increase in cost for transportation and accommodation throughout Morocco in April, when compared to the less busy months of January and February.

5. What to Wear in April

Ouarzazate, MoroccoOuarzazate, Morocco

April is a very moderate time of year, almost warm, and depending on where you go, you'll likely just need to bring one additional layer (a light jacket or sweater). During the day, light trousers or jeans and a t-shirt or a shirt will be fine to wear.

During the evenings or if you're visiting the coastal cities or the desert, we recommend bringing a jacket. We also recommend bringing warmer pajamas, because the guesthouses do not all have heating, especially traditional riads or camps in the desert.
