While most of Europe turns cold in November, most of Greece's highlights stay warm enough for pleasant touring during the day when it is sunny. There is suitable weather for walking around the ancient sites, touring the cities, and hiking in nature in low tourism season.

Most of Greece has mild weather in November with low rainfall except in northern Greece, the eastern coastal islands, and places with high mountains. The weather is suitable for touring Greece's historical places and hiking. The humidity makes it feel warmer.

Northern Greece: The continental weather from Europe is cooler, rainier, and stormier. It might snow in the higher elevations. There is more green natural scenery and forests with beautiful fall foliage, and there are many excellent places to hike.

1.Athens — Tour the Historic Highlights, Museums, City Streets, and Parks

Athens has good weather for walking and touring in November when the autumn scenery makes the city more beautiful. In summer, people feel rushed and stressed by crowds and heat, but in November, you can take a break and relax while there is low rainfall and pleasant daytime temperatures prevail.

Athens has mild weather with low rainfall, and this is good for touring the historical sites, visiting the museums, and walking in the streets. There are 5 hours of daily sunshine and 72% humidity that might feel a little muggy. The sea temperature is 19°C (66°F) or a bit cool for most people.

Since there are fewer tourists around, you could enjoy strolling in the Acropolis and its park area, Mount Lycabettus, and the shopping streets of Athens more comfortably during the day. The museums and the Acropolis have shorter hours and may close by 5 pm.

Crete stays warmer than the rest of Greece in the fall since it is the southernmost part of Greece. The sea temperature averages 20°C (69°F) and is just about suitable for swimming, but this makes November the low tourism season. Prices are much lower, but many businesses and most resorts close. There is an international airport, and flights from Athens take an hour.

3. Kefalonia — Enjoy a Family Vacation

Kefalonia is the biggest of the Ionian Islands on the western side of Greece. It is suggested for families since it is a popular family vacation spot with highlights that children like such as Italian castles, monasteries, and an underground lake.

There are also good beaches with calmer water than most of the Greek resort islands, and this is better for children too. It is so big, there are good places to hike. Mt. Ainos National Park is beautiful in the fall with highlighting of the colors of autumn.

The mountain is 1,628 m (5,341 feet) tall. The beaches are about the cleanest and most beautiful in Greece with water of various shades of green and blue and sand of striking colors, even red and brown. Flights are the best way to travel there. Flights from Athens take an hour.

4.Santorini — Hike in Natural Autumn Beauty and See Historical Places Without Crowds

Santorini has mild and often sunny weather in November, and the rainfall is low. So, this is excellent weather for both hiking in nature and seeing the historical places. The Fira to Oia hike is famed.

Santorini has low tourism and usually no crowds in November, and it is still warm enough to swim and do watersports since the water temperature at the island's beautiful beaches is 19°C (66°F).

The daily highs are 19°C (66°F), and the lows are 15°C (59°F), so the weather is good for being outdoors and walking in the ruins of Akrotiri. In Fira, two highlights are the Archeological Museum and the Prehistoric Thera Museum. Flights are fewer and from Athens take an hour.

In November, the famous travel destination of Rhodes is also one of the warmest highlights of Greece, since it is one of the southernmost big islands. Daily temperatures range from about 24°C (64°F) to lows of 18°C (64°F). This is significantly warmer than the mainland. Rainfall is moderate.

In 2023, fires affected some of the southern resort areas, but the northern shore was unaffected. The historical highlights were not affected such as the Acropolis of Lindos, the Old Town that preserves medieval architecture, and the Gothic castle of the Knights of Rhodes that was built in the 1300s.

The ancient Greek ruins of the Athena Lindia are another highlight. Rhodes has many places to hike and is known for ceramics. There are 100 beaches, and the 21°C (70°F) water temperature is suitable for swimming. Flights from Athens take an hour, and there is an international airport.

Low Tourism Season: Touring Advice for November

November is harvest season, and you can enjoy the great tastes of fresh fruit, organic vegetables, olives and freshly pressed olive oil at relatively low prices in the restaurants and cafés. The flavors, colors, ancient places, forests, ruins, and hillside vistas of Greece are more vivid in November.

Since tourism is low, the prices for hotel rooms declines to as little as 60% of the peak prices of July and August. So, you might plan on extended stays while the weather is mild and dine on Greece's more natural, healthier, and tastier cuisine with lots of seafood dishes.

There are no public holidays in November.

What to Wear in November

In southern Greece and the southern islands, a thick jacket or light coat is needed for comfort, but northern Greece and the mountains may get snowfall in November, so bring winter clothing for these places.

Shoes: Since it is rainier, wear sturdy shoes with good traction for the nature trails, the cobbled stone streets and archeological sites to prevent slips and wet feet.

Wetsuits: The average sea temperature is about 21°C (70°F) at most of Greece's beach highlights in November. This is suitable for swimming, but since the air temperature during the days might be cooler than the water, it might be a good idea to wear a wetsuit.
