We loved our experience in Bangkok with our guide Ying. She made everything easy to understand and enjoyable. She guided us through crowded areas with ease and always provided a detailed description of the sights. She also took pictures for us and sent them at the end of every day. The Best Places to Visit in Ireland in June
June is a great time of the year to explore both the urban marvels and the natural beauty of Ireland, with generally cool to mild weather and relatively little rain in comparison to the rest of the year.
For a little help with planning your itinerary, read on, or you can always ask our Global Highlights local experts to help you put together your ideal Ireland itinerary. Our team is highly experienced and can make sure that all the sights you want to see are included in your plans for a stress-free holiday. Contact us to start planning your Ireland trip.
For visitors in June, we suggest checking out Dublin, Cork, Killarney and Glenveagh National Park to venture into nature and go for a walk, a hike, or a beautiful bike ride through the woods.
1. Walk Through Dublin
With Dublin being where most international flights come into, this is most likely where you will start your adventures into Ireland from. Dublin has so much to offer, and we would recommend taking a walk through the city to see its best sights on one of your first days. You can read more about that, including a recommended route, in our piece about visiting Ireland in May.
Dublin is also home to some incredible museums, particularly the Museum of Irish Literature, EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, the Little Museum of Dublin, the Irish Famine Exhibition, and the National Museum of Ireland. Each of these have exhibitions coming from all over the world and, depending on your specific interests, are worth a visit.
Ireland is also famously home to Guinness and whiskey. For fans of either of those, we would recommend the Irish Whiskey Museum and the Guinness Storehouse for a Guinness factory tour.
2. Hike in Glenveagh National Park
Up in the very north of Ireland, near Northern Ireland, you will find Glenveagh National Park, one of the most beautiful national parks in Ireland.
Inside the park there are plenty of trails at different difficulty levels. The top-rated walk is Lakeside Walk, which is an easy walk around the lake, taking approximately 1½ hours. For a harder walk we recommend Lough Inshagh Walk, also around a lake and through woodlands which takes around 4 hours to complete. June's weather is great for either of these, with generally mild temperatures in the daytime.
The park is also home to a castle, Glenveagh Castle and Gardens, which was built around 1870, complete with a herd of local red deer. There is a visitor center with exhibitions too.
3. Check out Cork's Castles and Visit an Irish Pub
Cork is home to some beautiful Irish pubs where you'll be able to experience the real Irish pub atmosphere complete with local food and a pint of Guinness or a glass of whiskey.
The area is full of castles dotted in and around Cork, including the Blackrock Castle Observatory, the Blarney Castle and Gardens, and Elizabeth Fort.
For fans of art, there is the Crawford Art Gallery, where you will find over 3,000 pieces of art ranging from 18th century Irish artists to more modern European paintings and even video installations. Interestingly, there is also a collection of Greek and Roman sculpture casts brought from the Vatican Museum in the 1800s.
4. Mountainbike in Kerry's Killarney National Park
Killarney National Park is another incredible national park to visit in Ireland, found near Kerry on the southwestern coast of Ireland. The area was important in Irish history, having had a range of different religious settlements settling here since the 600s.
Today, the national park is a great place for adventurous tourists looking to see breathtaking Irish scenery. There are biking trails for days, and lots of walking trails too for visitors who prefer hiking over getting around on two wheels.
Tourism is the largest industry around there, and you will understand why when you see the incredible views. It is possible to get a bus or train there from Cork, Dublin, or Limerick, but we would recommend either getting a car with a guide, which Global Highlights can help arrange, or renting a car yourself to get around.
High Season: More Expensive and More Crowded
June marks the beginning of the tourism season for Ireland, which falls in its summer (June through to early September). As a result, there will likely be more tourists in Ireland, with higher costs for transportation and accommodation.
We would recommend booking and planning a good 3 months ahead to avoid disappointment, and to ensure you don't get hit by higher prices when booking closer to June. Contact us for all the booking and planning support you might need.
What to Wear in June
While the weather in June can be mild towards the lower end of warm, we do recommend bringing a few warmer items to ensure you don't get caught out during a cold spell. If you have the space, we would suggest bringing a few summer and a few winter items, or if you don't have the space, jeans or longer trousers are likely a good shout.
Wearing supportive footwear is a good idea since you will likely be doing a lot of exploring, and if you are going hiking, we would also recommend packing a lightweight waterproof layer just in case.
