Israel Weather in June: Hot and Dry, Places to Go

By Ishaan | Updated Jul. 25, 2023

The arrival of June means that summer is in full swing and you can expect it to be relatively hot and completely dry in Israel during this time. You don't have to worry about it raining at all and the month will be filled with day after sunshine-filled day to accompany you during your travels to this popular destination in the Middle East.

Considering the fact that June is still not as hot as it would be during the peak summer months of July and August, coupled with the fact that many tourists have time off during this early part of summer, many people visit the country during this month. The holy festival of Shavuot results in it becoming particularly busy and crowded in Jerusalem during the holiday, with prices also surging in the capital during this time.

The good thing is that you don't have to worry about packing for different seasons if you plan to visit Israel during June. All you need to pack are your favorite summer clothes, your swimwear, some sunscreen, and a hat you trust.

Best Places to See in Israel in June

1. Jerusalem

If partaking in Shavuot celebrations is a massive draw for you in visiting Israel during June, Jerusalem has to be a must-stop for you during your travels in the country. The religious side of Shavuot celebrations are best observed in the capital, and one can see families making their way to synagogues for late night prayers before visiting the Western Wall in the early hours of the morning. Just remember to dress in appropriate clothing that covers your knees if you wish to visit any of these sites. Shavuot will lead to a disruption in normal business hours during the day of the festival itself and the city will be slightly crowded, so do plan accordingly. Even though it is slightly warm in Jerusalem during June, being in the city for Shavuot is well worth it.

2. Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv is warm in June but it's still much cooler than it would be during the summer months of July and August, meaning although a little crowded, it is still a good time to visit the Jewish National Museum, Rabin Square, and the Carmel Food Market, before taking a relaxing stroll through the Old City of Yafo.

3. Haifa

Haifa in June is still cooler than it would be during the two summer months of July and August meaning you can spend hours sunbathing on the city's many beaches without it getting uncomfortable. The waters are still somewhat cool and swimming is a favorite of many a tourist that visits Haifa during this time. If you're not keen on spending time at the beach, you can opt to take a trip to Mount Carmel before visiting the Bahai Hanging Garden to take in the stunning views of the city from the hilltop viewing terrace.

June Crowds and Costs

June is a popular month to visit Israel since it is still not as hot as it will be in the months that follow during the absolute height of summer. This, coupled with the fact that many families enjoy time off from work and school during the month, results in droves of tourists, both local and foreign, descending upon the Holy Land during what is generally considered the official beginning of the tourist high-season in the country.

This influx of tourists in Israel during June means you can expect long lines and big crowds at almost any popular tourist hotspot in the country that you've bookmarked as a must-visit. Queues and crowds will be even bigger at museums in Jerusalem during the afternoons as people will be aiming to beat the daytime heat by cooling off indoors.

It's also wise to expect an increase in prices for food, accommodation, and entertainment, among other basics, in most parts of Israel during the month of June.

What to Wear in Israel in June

If you're considering visiting Israel despite understanding the fact that it can get really hot in some areas of the Holy Land during June, just keep in mind that there is absolutely no need for you to carry winter clothing of any kind, just as there is absolutely no need for you to pack anything to keep you protected from rainfall during what is the driest month of the year in the country.

Your essentials to pack if traveling to Israel during June should include comfortable, loose fitting summer clothing, a few long sleeved shirts and skirts (also useful in covering your knees if you plan on visiting the Western Wall) to keep you protected from the harsh rays of the sun, your most trusted brand of sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and a pair of comfortable walking shoes.

If you plan on spending some time sunbathing on the beach, remember to bring your own bathing suit and towels, so you don't have to spend any money buying these items when traveling.

June Events in Israel

Shavuot (Feast of Weeks): One of the most significant Jewish festivals in the calendar year, Shavuot takes place in either May or June depending on its placement in the Hebrew lunisolar calendar. The two best places to experience this momentous holiday are Jerusalem, which is particularly good if you want to observe the more religious aspects to the celebrations, and a Kibbutz (voluntary work community) in the countryside where celebrations take on a more festive, party-like atmosphere in the presence of cowboys, and families dressed in traditional clothing having the time of their lives, enjoying the day by sharing meals and dancing in the fields.

One of three major Jewish pilgrimage festivals, Shavuot results in all businesses being closed for the day.
