In November, Egypt's weather starts to mellow a little, with temperatures dropping throughout the country and the weather becoming increasingly pleasant for sightseeing and more active activities.
There is only a little bit of rain (around Alexandria), with most days being predominantly sunny throughout the country.
November is also a great time of the year to visit Egypt's beaches, still. This is because Egypt never gets truly cold, not even during the winter months, which November technically is.

2. Egypt Regional Weather in November
November is one of the wetter months in Egypt, but fortunately there is still quite little rainfall, especially when compared to Europe and Northern America. In Alexandria, for example, where there is the most rain in Egypt, you can expect a total of 32 mm of rainfall (1.3 inches) in the entire month, which won't put a stop to your explorations. Most days still see a lot of sunshine.
The coastal cities of Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh only see around 2 mm (0.1 inches) of rain in November, making them great destinations for a trip to Egypt in November. This is especially the case for those not able to handle the higher temperatures on the beach in the summer months.
Average Climate Data for Egypt's Top Destinations:
Location | Min. Temp. | Max. Temp. | Rainfall |
---|---|---|---|
Alexandria | 14°C (57°F) | 24°C (76°F) | 32 mm (1.3 in) |
Cairo (and Giza) | 15°C (59°F) | 25°C (77°F) | 2 mm (0.1 in) |
Luxor | 12°C (54°F) | 29°C (84°F) | 0 mm |
Aswan | 16°C (61°F) | 30°C (86°F) | 0 mm |
Hurghada | 17°C (63°F) | 28°C (82°F) | 2 mm (0.1 in) |
Sharm el-Sheikh | 20°C (68°F) | 28°C (82°F) | 2 mm (0.1 in) |
When it comes to temperatures, evenings in certain parts of the country, Alexandria, Cairo, and Luxor for example, are slightly cooler, at around 14°C (57°F) minimum. During the day, you can still expect pleasant temperatures of around 25°C (77°F) in the north of Egypt.
Further south in Egypt, temperatures reach an average maximum of 30°C (86°F) in November, meaning that winter in Egypt is nothing like that in much of Europe and Northern America, or even Australia. During the evening, even in the warmer cities, temperatures do dip to 16°C (61°F) meaning you'll need to bring an additional layer to keep warm.

3. Best Places to Visit in Egypt in November

1) Cairo and Giza
Cairo is likely where your Egyptian adventure will start, as this is where the main international airport is. There's also a lot to see, and November is a great time to visit as temperatures are relatively low compared to the rest of the year.
From there, you'll be able to enjoy Cairo's beautiful architecture, go shopping for souvenirs at the Khan el-Khalili bazaar, visit The Pyramids of Giza, and learn more about Egyptian culture and sample Egyptian cuisine at one of Cairo's many restaurants. Cairo and Giza are also close to Saqqara, where you'll find some of the recently-discovered tombs, which is also great to visit in November.

2) Luxor
Luxor's weather is great in November, and this is a good time of year to visit one of Egypt's most popular tourist destinations.
Head on over to the Luxor Temple, as well as the Valley of the Kings, and the Karnak Temple, one of the biggest temple complexes in the entire world. Given the weather isn't too hot in November, it's a great time of year to wander around.

3) Aswan
Aswan, located on the Nile, is a popular place from which to take a boat trip, and November is a great time of year to do this as the days don't get too hot. From there you can also visit Ramses II in Abu Simbel, and you can visit the temples of Kom Ombo and Adfu. While the temperatures aren't too high, you'll be able to spend more of the day exploring outdoors.

4) Sharm el-Sheikh
One of the best spots in Egypt to go for a relaxing beach holiday is Sharm el-Sheikh. Travellers love going there to explore the Red Sea, spend time relaxing on the beach, and to go snorkeling or diving. Temperatures are high enough to spend time on the beach, and also cooler so as to allow more time to go on an active trip to Mount Sinai.

4. Crowds and Cost
The peak tourist season in Egypt is December and January, and in November it already starts to get a little busier throughout the country, especially in popular tourist destinations such as Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan. Spots like the Pyramids of Giza will be busy during peak times in the day, and you'll need to make sure you get tickets ahead of time.
Prices at this time are also a little higher, due to higher demand for transportation (internal flights, for example, as well as international flights) and accommodation.

5. What to Wear in Egypt in November
November temperatures are relatively moderate, so we recommend layering for the evenings, and wearing cooler clothes during the daytime. This includes lighter-colored clothing rather than darker-colored clothing, and wearing natural fabrics rather than synthetic fabrics.
We can recommend long linen trousers, or longer skirts and dresses for women, as tradition in Egypt is to cover your shoulders as well as knees. A linen shirt will protect you from the sun in the day, and ensure that you are dressed respectfully. You can read more about what to wear during your time in Egypt here.
As there are still many sunny days, we do recommend wearing sunscreen, or a hat and sunglasses, during your outdoor adventures. This is because there can be high levels of UV, and you'll be outside for longer than you think!
